Rainwater harvesting buildings to be geo-tagged- IMC

Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has started geo-tagging all existing and new rainwater harvesting systems installed in both public and private property.

Online record of property having rainwater harvesting system will now be maintained by civic body to monitor and promote the self-sustainable system as part of Centre’s Jal Shakti Abhiyaan.

Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has started geo-tagging all existing and new rainwater harvesting systems installed in both public and private property.

A decision in this regard has been taken up to have record of rainwater harvesting systems in city.

This was not the case earlier and property with rainwater harvesting systems could be identified only through property tax records, but only if property owner had availed a one-time rebate in property tax given by IMC.

“We have started geo-tagging rainwater harvesting systems that are being installed by residents and organizations on their property. This will provide us genuine and verifiable data in case we need it in future for any survey or maintenance,” IMC commissioner Asheesh Singh

He said that the initiative is a part of Centre’s Jal Shakti Abhiyaan under which all zonal officials and assistant engineers (Narmada Project) of IMC have been instructed to collect geo-tagged pictures before, during and after installation of rainwater harvesting system on property falling in their respective zones.
