Pune metro extension plans may cost Rs 4,200 crore

Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) is developing the 23km Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar.

The proposed Shivajinagar-Kadamwak Wasti Metro extension and a fresh line from Swargate to Pulgate are likely to set PMRDA back by an additional Rs 4,200 crore.

Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) is developing the 23km Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar. Last week, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar had proposed the extension and the new route at a meeting with PMRDA and told officials to study the plan and submit a report.

According to officials in the know, early assessment reports have suggested the entire line be elevated, as an underground line would further escalate the cost. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will prepare a detailed project report by next month

“The estimated cost of the Shivajinagar-Hadapsar elevated Metro line is Rs4,500 crore,” an official said, adding, “The extension and the new line would further increase the expenses by another Rs4,200 crore.” Each additional kilometre is expected to cost Rs300 crore.
