In order to catch hold of defaulters of property tax, water supply and sewerage dues in one go, the civic authorities have now decided to interlink data and serve one single notice of recovery. Not only this, even payment will be recovered at one counter so that people could clear their dues in one go instead of knocking at two doors. At the moment for both types of recoveries, the defaulters get separate notices.
The officials claimed that they send property tax notices separately while water supply and sewerage dues are collected differently, but now they are planning to mention both dues in one notice. The receipts can be two, but payment will be at one counter. MC’s Shena Aggarwal has asked the officials to start working on this scheme.
Meanwhile one of the officials claimed that there are over 4 lakh properties in the city. but they do not have data of all. He added that UID numbers were given to various properties, but before linking everything they would have to cross check whether data was accurate. Initially they can start with 1.5 to 2 lakh properties, he said.
MC superintendent Vivek Verma said, “We have asked the IT team to provide data that can be interlinked and discussions are also going to serve one notice to the defaulters for saving our time and energy.” He said it would take some time for things to get streamlined.
Notably, the civic officials keep on serving notices to defaulters of previous years for clearance of dues. Tax recovery under property tax is still better while water supply and sewerage dues are recovered only from half of the consumers as some come under exemption. Moreover, at the moment civic body is under acute scarcity of funds and employees have started protesting for salary too. Therefore, they are coming out with new plans to fight out crisis.
