The Central Crime Branch of the Chennai police arrested a couple running a construction company on charges of cheating a real estate firm to the tune of Rs 18.5 crore.
P K Ramesh of Call Express Constructions Pvt Ltd, his wife Maria Ramesh and their son Praveen Ramesh were booked under sections 420, 465, 468, 409, 34 and 109 of the IPC based on a complaint by Sreedhar Narayanan of Annai Builders Real Estate Ltd. Praveen Ramesh is said to be living in Australia.
Police said the couple approached the company in 2018 for a joint venture to build a residential complex on their six acres of land in Perumbakkam. After receiving Rs 18.5 crore, the couple started avoiding Sreedhar Narayanan. They didn’t make any move to launch the construction project.
A background inquiry revealed that the couple had diverted the money to his son’s business in Australia.
Ramesh and his wife Maria were picked up from their house on Saturday and remanded in judicial custody.
