The sanction for building plans and issuance of commencement and occupation certificates are set to be fast-tracked as the BBMP has revamped the town planning department into three wings in place of the earlier two. The wings will ensure the entire process goes online.
Currently, issuing sanctioned plans and commencement and occupation certificates takes about a month if all papers are in order. Though the Palike had been emphasising that the entire process should be online, it was never completely adhered to.
The third wing has been created by winding up the squad that was looking into complaints of plan deviations. The squad was dissolved citing it remained jobless for over a decade and the staff were redeployed in the new wing.
While the town planning department earlier worked in two wings — north and south — and looked after the city’s eight zones, the jurisdiction will now be redistributed between three wings: north, south and central, a source said.
An order in this regard was issued by BBMP commissioner Manjunatha Prasad on July 3. “As per the new pattern, all three wings will have to initiate sanctioning of plans, commencement certificates and occupancy certificates and also it has to ensure all these are followed through online system,” the order read.
However, the commissioner also maintained that the urban development department’s approval would be sought for arrangements made by the administration and till then, the town planning department will work under three heads. Another order will be issued after getting approval from the urban development department, he said.
