Bouygues Construction’s subsidiary VSL International has launched the first phase construction of North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) in the Philippines.
The rail project was awarded by Taisei Corporation and the D.M. Consunji, Inc (DMCI) group.
The contract, worth €100m, will also cover the precast and installation of the bridge segments.
The North-South Commuter Railway is a new 148km-long transit line, which will link New Clark City, in Tarlac province, to Calamba City in Laguna province.
The scope of the contract will include the construction of the 16km-long elevated viaduct, which forms part of an important transport infrastructure project.
Under the contract, VSL International will build the superstructure, which includes the precast and installation of 4,810 precast segments on a dedicated precast yard covering more than eight hectares.
Bouygues Construction stated that 23 segment cells will be needed to keep up the pace with the precast cycle.
Construction crews will build viaduct deck span by span using four launching girders simultaneously, thus reducing the overall construction programme.
The on-site work, which will last for 30 months, will employ 500 people at peak periods.
VSL International has been working with post-tensioned and cable-stayed concrete structures, foundations and soil engineering. It is part of Bouygues Construction’s Civil Works division and works with Bouygues Travaux Publics.
With offices in 30 nations, VSL contributes to the construction, maintenance and repair of major technical structures.
