The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), the civic body carried out demolition of a newly-constructed three-storeyed illegal commercial building.
The commercial building, built on an area of 7,500 square feet in Maktampura ward of Ahmedabad was razed by the AMC on Thursday.
The demolition was carried out with the help of two JCB machines, 25 AMC staff under deployment, 40 police officers and around 15 private contracted labours, the Indian Express (IE) reported.
AMC anti-encroachment drive
The Ahmedabad civic body has been carrying out an anti-encroachment drive and razing illegal shops, offices and buildings. The drive was started in June last year, the Times of India (TOI) revealed in its report, and on the first day, five buildings were razed. The AMC officials said that the ongoing anti-encroachment campaign across the city will go on in the coming days too.
As per the report, the AMC officials have identified more than 100 shops with illegal construction on the service road from Vishala Circle that will be demolished in the coming week.
Commercial building razed
A report published in the IE revealed that the civic body razed a newly-built ground plus two-floor building opposite Lucky Saad Bakery and Mastana Masjid in the South West zone.
Deputy Estate Officer of South West zone Kantibhai Patel was quoted by the IE as saying that the newly-built illegally constructed commercial building was built two-three months ago. The officer said that the construction was slapped with notices and also sealed as per the provisions of the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation Act, 1949 to stop illegal use.
Plots in Nikol ward removed
Recently, the Ahmedabad north east estate department said that the civic body removed encroachments from various plots in Nikol ward worth an estimated price of Rs 21.50 crore. This was also a part of the anti-encroachment drive of the AMC on public roads, footpaths, illegal construction and illegal possession of municipal reserve plots.
